3D and 4D Imaging

The Cerec CAD/CAM uses "Blue-ray" technology to create a 3D image of the jaw where the implant is to be placed, allowing us to place new teeth in perfect position. Used in conjunction with SiCat software we create a virtual implant that will later be stitched into the Galileos cone beam image.

By combining these ultra low-dose radiation technologies, our office can quickly and accurately detect all anatomic structures in real 3-D perspective making our treatment near flawless. Efficiency means an accurate implant placement allowing for faster more comfortable surgery.

Once the implant guide is fabricated, and the implant created, the surgery is scheduled. This minimally invasive surgery, usually lasts about 10 minutes for one implant because of the accurate preplanning afforded by this new generation of dental implant technology. Technology in dentistry has had many vast improvements and advancements. One of these advancements is CAD/CAM Restoration (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing). This technology is also sometimes referred to as a Cerec. Cerec is used for inlays, onlays, and crowns restorations. There are many advantages associated with the use of this technology.

During a routine dental exam, a patient is often told that they need a restoration due to a "worn out filling", cracked tooth, or decay. Some of this restorative work may be redone or repaired with a "filling". However, when there is insufficient tooth structure to support further "filling" material, an Inlay or Onlay provides a strong, durable and conservative restoration. A Crown is recommended when the tooth requires more coverage for strength and durability. Traditionally these restorations required at least two appointments: one to prepare and impression the tooth with a temporary placed and one to deliver the restoration. Both appointments required anesthesia.

With Cerec a restoration can be done in one appointment.

Dr Hugh's Dental routinely uses the dental laser on a daily basis for the treatment and maintenance of periodontal disease. New to our office in the last year, lasers have aided many of our periodontal patients to incredible results in achieving periodontal health. Once the primary therapy appointments are finished, the patient is placed on a maintenance program. The laser is easily incorporated into these appointments to assist in the bacterial control and maintain periodontal health. Since the oral cavity can never be bacteria free, the laser will always be an effective instrument of choice for the periodontal maintenance patient.

The connection between Periodontal Disease and Heart disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Low Birth Weight Babies, and Lung disease is well documented. Periodontal disease is indicated by bleeding gingiva, increased pocket depths around the tooth, recession of gum tissue, bone loss, furcation involvement, mobility, and exudate, often results in loss of teeth. As pocket depths increase, both hard and soft debris accumulate, causing the perfect site for the advancement of the periodontal disease process.

The Dental Laser helps the gum tissue to heal better, quicker, and with no discomfort.

The current method of treating and dealing with disease causing microorganisms is through the use of antibiotics delivered both locally and systemically. There are two problems with this method. First, there will always be a certain percentage of patients who may have contra-indications for using certain antibiotics. They may have systemic reactions or may be pregnant. Second, the overuse of medications for infection, specifically antibiotics, results in resistant strains of bacteria to medications available for use.

Laser devises have been available and used in dentistry since the early 1990's. Lasers currently used in dentistry for the treatment of periodontal disease exert their bacterial reduction through photo-thermal means. Dental lasers deliver light energy locally to the infected site to destroy the bacteria by rupturing their cell wall. Laser energy is delivered by light for which there are no contra-indications for use. Also, the bacteria can not develop resistance. A Dental Laser and proper hygiene treatment is the least invasive approach when treating a Periodontal Infection.
